READING WARM-UPS – STAAR
*** Upgraded with information from 2014 Released STAAR Test
Grades 3, 4, 5, and 6
Reading Warm-ups - STAAR is a series of short reading passages coupled with four or five multiple choice questions that assess student knowledge and performance on the STAAR standards. Each individual warm-up is designed to be used as a short daily reading practice. Students read a passage and answer questions based on the passage. Each set of warm-ups tests STAAR standards at a particular grade level. There is a set of warm-ups for grade 3, grade 4, grade 5, and grade 6. Both fiction and nonfiction passages are included in each series.
Each grade level set includes passages with multiple choice questions. Grades 3 and 4 included 83 passages. Grade 5 includes 80 passages. Grade 6 includes 60 passages. An answer key is provided along with a standards matrix displaying which questions in which passages cover which specific STAAR standards at that grade level.
These two page or more warm-ups can be used in a variety of ways. You may have your students read the passage and answer the questions in class. The answers can be checked in class and discussed immediately. The warm-ups can be assigned as homework and checked in class the next day. Several warm-ups can be put together as a mini-test. With the 50 - 80 or more warm-ups at each grade level there are 300 or more questions assessing the multitude of STAAR standards.
Reading Warm-ups comes in two versions: a hard copy and a CD copy. The hard copy is on 24 lb. 96 bright white paper and bound in a 3 ring binder. The CD version is on a CD.
